NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County
, located in the heart of Brooklyn, accommodate more than 518,076 outpatient visits, more than 141,328 emergency room visits, and with 627 beds, more than 25,000 inpatient admissions annually. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with SUNY Downstate Medical Center in order to maintain its high standards of healthcare delivery.


Kings County is located in the East Flatbush/Prospect-Lefferts section of Brooklyn, close to the 2 and 5 subways. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.


Responsibilities:

Provides overall supervision, management, and directorshiof the Microbiology Laboratory; ensures implementation and maintenance of compliance with the standards of thNew York State Department of HealthCollege of American Pathologistsand other applicable regulatory agencies and accrediting organizations.


P
rovides for the quality managemensystem; ensures conformance to requirements described in the Quality Plandevelops quality system indicators that monitoMicrobiologLaboratory operations and services provideddevelops quality improvement initiatives and reviews quality assessment reports.


P
rovides effective and efficient administrative direction othe MicrobiologLaboratoryincluding budget planning and controlin conjunction with the individuals(sresponsiblfor financial management of the Microbiology  Laboratory.


Manages facilities, staffing 
levelsequipment, and other resources critical to Microbiology Laboratory operationsoversees selection of laboratory equipmentstaff. and suppliesprovides support for all Microbiology Laboratory staff by providing them with the appropriate authority and resources to carry outheiduties and by responding to their needs and concerns.


Ensures 
sufficiently qualified personnel are employed with documented training and/or experience to supervise and perform the work of the Microbiology Laboratory; assures technical performance of thstaff meets the objectives of the Quality Plan.


En
sures that policies and procedures are established for assessing staff training and competence andwhenever necessaryfoproviding remedial training and education to improve skills; ensures staff competencis assessed regularly, and when indicated.


Specifies 
iwriting the responsibilities and duties of all Microbiology Laboratory personnel.


Ensures 
that written laboratory policies and procedures covering the entire scope of operations and services provided by the Microbiology Laboratory are developedapproved and implemented assures approved policies and procedures are available to all staff; reviewsrevisesand approves policies and procedures regularly and as required.


Defines
, implements, and monitors standards operformance in quality control and quality assurance for the Microbiology Laboratoryassures written quality control procedures are sufficient for the extent of testing performed ithe MicrobiologLaboratory.


Ensur
es thMicrobiology Laboratory is enrolled in appropriate proficiency testing program(s) for all laboratory testing performedincluding the New York State Department of Health's ProficiencTesting Programassures adherence tthe administrative and technical requirements of all proficiency testing programs in which the Microbiology Laboratory is enrolled.

Monitors alwork performed in the Microbiology Laboratorto ensure that medically reliable data are generatedcorrelates laboratory data witdiagnoses and patient management; evaluates thquality and appropriateness of laboratorservices rendered, withithe context of the Quality Pion, regardless of where the testing is performed.

Provides educational direction to the MicrobiologLaboratorstaff and to ClinicaPathology residents during theirotation through Microbiology Laboratoryprovides for continuing education opportunities for all staff.


Schedule: 

The Associate Directomust spend sufficient time on site to provide oversight fotheir designated areas

The AssociatDirectoiMust be a New York State (NYSED) licensed clinical Labratory Technologist
