Position Summary:
We are seeking a passionate medical educator with experience teaching immunology and microbiology to graduate-level or health sciences students. This individual will play a critical role in teaching foundational knowledge in these disciplines and collaborating with clinicians to address medically important immunology and foundational microbiology in medicine. The ideal candidate is dedicated to helping medical students achieve their fullest potential by fostering a nurturing, supportive, and safe learning environment—one that empowers students to engage, take risks, and openly address gaps in their knowledge without fear.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
The faculty member will design, develop, and deliver high-quality, engaging instructional materials in immunology and foundational microbiology, and infectious disease, immunopharmacology, and rheumatology. They will implement evidence-based teaching strategies that foster active learning, critical thinking, and meaningful engagement. By connecting foundational science concepts to clinical practice, the faculty member will help students understand how knowledge translates to patient care. Course content will be kept current, research-informed, and aligned with the curriculum objectives. The candidate will use assessment data and student feedback to continuously improve instructional effectiveness and learning outcomes.
In addition to instruction, the faculty member will serve as a course administrator. This includes managing course planning, delivery, and evaluation with a focus on continuous improvement. They will coordinate with faculty across the Rockford, Chicago, and Peoria campuses to ensure alignment and consistency in course content and assessments. Responsibilities will include developing assessments to measure student learning, including performance on tests, quizzes, and standardized exams. The faculty member will also provide mentorship, individualized academic support, and constructive feedback to students.
The faculty member will collaborate with faculty from other disciplines to integrate basic and clinical sciences within the curriculum. They will participate in faculty development initiatives to enhance instructional techniques and learning strategies. In addition, they will engage in scholarly activities related to medical education, including curriculum innovation, educational research, and dissemination through publications or presentations. Service responsibilities include participating in departmental meetings, campus and college committees, and accreditation-related activities to support institutional goals. The faculty member will also contribute to the College of Medicine’s mission through community outreach, interdisciplinary collaborations, and service-related initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as immunology, microbiology, or a related medical specialty at the time of hire. A demonstrated history of effective teaching of graduate, medical, or health sciences learners, with positive student evaluations. Applicants must have strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, faculty, and staff. Candidates should also have a proven ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams and multiple campuses.

Compensation and Benefits:
The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $90,000 to $160,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
