Description

Indiana University School of Medicine, a national leader in research, education and clinical care, is seeking a visionary
leader to serve as Chair of the Department Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine serves the 17 hospital IU Health System, which includes the Riley Children’s Hospital, multiple surgery centers as well as the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center and Eskenazi Health. The department is located in a modern 150,000 square foot laboratory building located overlooking the central canal in Indianapolis. In 2019 the department processed over 125,000 surgical specimens, 64,000 cytopathology cases and nine million clinical laboratory tests.
The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine conducts research programs on degenerative neurological diseases, cancer, tissue injury, inflammation and infection, metabolic disturbances, and stem cells. Faculty operate core research labs to support this collaborative research , including: Neuropathology Core, Specimen Storage Facility, Translational Genomics, Tissue Procurement and Distribution, Immunohistochemistry Core and Electron Microscopy Center. Faculty in this department are internationally-recognized pathologists and scientists and make who are dedicated to education at all levels. The department is committed to undergraduate and graduate medical education, and offers the only pathology residency program in Indiana, with fellowship programs in ten different anatomic and clinical pathology subspecialties along with clinical lab science, cytopathology and histotechnology programs.
We are seeking a transformational leader who can build on existing clinical, educational and research strengths in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Minimum qualifications include an MD or MD/PhD (or equivalent), board certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology, academic credentials appropriate for appointment to the rank of full professor with tenure, and eligibility for licensure in Indiana. The individual selected for this position must be a highly accomplished and academically productive pathologist and with exceptional communication, interpersonal and change management skills, and a strong commitment to upholding our core values--including promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
