Both positions offer salaries in the $290,000–$300,000 range and extensive opportunities for academic and multidisciplinary collaboration through partnerships with UPMC, Allegheny Health Network, and the new College of Osteopathic Medicine at Duquesne University.

The Deputy Chief Medical Examiner role emphasizes operational leadership, mentorship, quality management, and pathology oversight while maintaining active forensic casework responsibilities. 

The Academic Deputy Medical Examiner role focuses more heavily on medical education, fellowship and residency support, curriculum development, mentorship, scholarly activity, and academic collaboration while continuing active forensic pathology practice.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications generally include:
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Pennsylvania medical licensure at time of hire
Completion of Anatomic Pathology residency and Forensic Pathology fellowship training
Board certification or eligibility in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology through the American Board of Pathology
