The Department of Pathology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, is embarking on an exciting period of strategic growth under new leadership. To support this expansion, the department is recruiting for multiple faculty positions across Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Research. Appointments will be made at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level, commensurate with each candidate's qualifications, experience, and academic accomplishments. Current opportunities include:
- Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs
- General Surgical Pathology
- Gastrointestinal (GI)/Liver Pathology
- Neuropathology
- Generalist AP/CP Pathology
- Molecular Pathology
- Transfusion Medicine
- Basic Science Research (PhD or MD, PhD)
Successful candidates will join a rapidly growing academic department committed to excellence in clinical service, education, research, and innovation. Faculty participate in patient care, resident and medical student education, scholarly activity, and collaborative multidisciplinary programs while helping shape the future of pathology at UTMB.
UTMB Pathology has been an early adopter of technological innovation and artificial intelligence. The department has been fully digital in surgical pathology since 2023 and continues to expand its capabilities in digital pathology, molecular diagnostics, precision medicine, computational pathology, and AI-assisted clinical workflows. Faculty have numerous opportunities to collaborate across UTMB's nationally recognized clinical and research programs while contributing to innovative patient care initiatives.
The department serves a diverse patient population throughout the Houston-Galveston region and provides comprehensive anatomic and clinical pathology services across multiple hospitals and outpatient locations. Requirements
Qualified applicants should possess:
- MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree (or PhD for applicable research faculty positions)
- Board certification or board eligibility in the appropriate specialty
- Eligibility for unrestricted Texas medical licensure (for clinical positions)
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical care, teaching, research, and/or administration, as appropriate for the position
Leadership opportunities are available for candidates with administrative experience and a desire to contribute to departmental growth and strategic initiatives.
